Jimmy Fallon made his ‘Tonight Show’ debut on Monday night, and a decent portion of the show was dedicated to Winter Olympics coverage. Fallon took jabs at the Russian hockey team and their sudden “disappearance” after their loss to the US on Saturday, Al Rocker and Matt Lauer going down the luge track together, and various other Olympic moments.
He also took the opportunity to re-introduce a popular ‘Late Show’ bit that he did, handing out superlatives to a number of Olympic athletes. here are some of the standouts:
The segment of the night, though, and what most people are still talking about, is the line of some of the most famous individuals in the world who walked out from behind the curtain to hand Fallon $100 bills.
All in all, from the monologue to U2 and Will Smith to the evolution of hip hop and everything in between, I’d say it was a successful debut for Fallon. I’ve been warming up to his comedic ability, and, over time, he’s finding ways to improve and shed the image of being the guy who would always laugh in the middle of skits on SNL and ruin them.
Here’s to hoping he’s able to fill the large shoes that were left behind fairly well.
