This is pretty insane. San Siro stadium in Milan, Italy was the host for a 2016 European Championship (Euro 2016) qualifier between Italy and Croatia on Sunday, but the match had to be halted for nearly 10 minutes in the second half after fans in the upper deck of the stadium hurled flares onto the pitch.
According to reports, flares were launched onto the field a few minutes after the visiting Croats scored in the first half, which delayed the game for a few minutes, but the second occurrence resulted in the pitch actually catching on fire. The flares came from a section of the stadium where the away team’s fans were sitting. Play eventually resumed and the teams played to a 1-1 draw. During the second, longer delay, players left the field while emergency crews extinguished the fires and removed the flares.
